Philodinavus paradoxus Murray 1905
Philodinavus paradoxus: lateral view, whirling. The corona is very small compared to bdelloid rotifers of the Philodinidae. (1)

Philodinavus paradoxus: crop of the above image. The gastric glands are red. (1)

Philodinavus paradoxus: lateral view; focal plane on the foot with 4 toes (arrowheads) and the spurs. (1)

Philodinavus paradoxus: creeping specimen, dorsoventral view; peg-like spurs with interspace. Because of the short esophagus the trophi (arrowheads) are close to the mouth opening and can be extruded while feeding. This morphological feature is common in all species of family Philodinavidae. (3)

Philodinavus paradoxus: anterior part, ventral view; focal plane on the cilia of the rostrum and the cilia of the poorly developed trochal discs ("cheeks", marked by arrowheads). (3)

Philodinavus paradoxus: dorsal view, focal plane on the trophi. (1)

Philodinavus paradoxus: ventral view (1)

Philodinavus paradoxus: foot with 4 toes and spurs. (1)

Philodinavus paradoxus: focal plane on the foot with 4 toes (arrowheads) and the spurs (Sp). (1)

Philodinavus paradoxus: trophi (1)

Philodinavus paradoxus: specimen from (2), whirling

Philodinavus paradoxus: 4 images of the ramate trophi; upper images: cephalic view, different focal planes on the macerated trophi with dental formula (DF) 3/3; rami length (RaL): 15µm. Lower images: during the maceration process some epipharyngeal structures (arrowheads) detached from the trophi. right image: dorsoventral view. (3)
